Cancellation Policy

At the doctors, its 24 hours. If you call 24 hours in advance and you usually don't have to pay the cancellation fee. For a vacation, you need at least a weeks notice, but you'll probably lose the down payment. Cancelled weddings, you might be paying for pretty much everything, unless you insured it. Have you heard of wedding insurance? They'll insure anything.

What about visitation? Is there a cancellation fee for the person who skips out on visiting their child? No, the only person punished is the child. And maybe the other parent, who had made plans expecting their child to be gone, that now must be cancelled. Hopefully, any plans made didn't involve incurring a cancellation fee.

Today, my daughter's biological donor (BioD) was supposed to pick her up to take her to the aquarium at 930AM. He sent my husband a text message around 830AM: "I woke up with a bad cold. I probably got it from my dad who was getting over one. I don't want to get Jane sick. Let's cancel today. Call you later in the week to finalize Thursday plans."

Let me start by saying, we had just discussed the importance of moving visitation days if he, his girlfriend, or anyone else they were planning to be around is sick. Jane has been sick on and off since December and staying up all night long from December-February has become painful for me. So kudos for listening. But, he said too much. He said his dad was getting over a cold. Interesting, because you took Jane to your parents house yesterday. Thereby exposing her to your fathers cold, just as you were. Never mind the fact that you had her yesterday when YOU would have been the most contagious! 24-48 before symptoms show up, thats when a person is most contagious.

Why tell us about the father? Was someone else she spent time with last weekend sick, i.e. his brother who was visiting, his brother's girlfriend, or any of his other friends? He's trying to cover his ass somehow.

I am, however, happy every time he cancels, or it snows and the roads are too dangerous. It's just one less day of Jane receiving insane amounts of attention and then coming home to me and feeling like I'm no fun, because I can't play for four hours straight like BioD. Hard to explain to a 3 year old, "They only see you for 4 hours a week, thats why they play so much. It doesn't mean they love you more than Mommy." Does it?
